NFL-ReCCLE

Nakaumi Field Laboratory (NFL - ReCCLE)
Nakaumi Field Laboratory (NFL) is located on the Eshima island in the Lake Nakaumi. This field research facility consists of 2 buildings, (one for the laboratory and the other for guest house), and some experimental ponds. ReCCLE also maintains two research vessels at NFL to facilitate field work in the lakes. NFL is open for all scientists wishing to carryout research work in this region.

Infrastructure
1) Laboratory
The laboratory is equipped to carryout (A) the primary treatment of samples collected during the field work, and (B) storage and maintenance of sampling gears. Filtering of the water samples, drying of the wet samples, and sorting work can be done in the laboratory. The 1st floor of the laboratory building contains a machine shop and storage while the 2nd floor consists of sorting rooms and storage.

2) Guest House
The guest house in the NFL consists of a meeting room with kitchen, 3 guest rooms, 2 shower rooms, and an office room for the field staff. Visitors can cook their food in the kitchen which is reasonably well-equipped.

3) Experimental Ponds
There are 4 concrete ponds at the NFL adjacent to each other meant for culturing marine organisms and carrying out experiments. The ponds are continuously flushed by round the clock pumping of water in and out of the ponds to maintain the water quality in the ponds similar to that of Lake Nakaumi.

4) Research Vessels
